Abstract

MODEL-ECS is a gr’aphically based executable conceptual modelling language, that is suitable for operationalising the Problem Solving Methods (PSMs) modelled using the Knowledge Analysis and Design Support (KADS) methodology. The main contribution of this paper is in the development of all the necessary constructs for modelling executable Problem Solving Methods (PSMs). These constructs include: the conditional construct; the while loop; the repeat loop; the case construct, and the for construct. Knowledge passing between Knowledge Sources in a PSM is achieved using coreference links, and line of identity. The advantage of using MODEL-ECS comes from the expressibility provided by Conceptual Graphs, and the executability (thus rapid prototyping) that is provided by the Executable Conceptual Structures. With these capabilities, MODEL-ECS can be used not only for knowledge modelling, but also for visual programming.
