Abstract

Children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and congenital anomalies are at a higher risk of developing otolaryngologic conditions due in a large part to structural abnormalities and to neurological deficits. This section describes the different conditions that can be seen in this population and is broken down in to the following sections: otologic conditions, upper airway conditions, cleft lip and palate and sinus and nasal disease. Each section reviews disease processes that are found in the general population, along with conditions specifically found in children with IDD and those with congenital anomalies. Diagnosis and management of the specific conditions are discussed as appropriate.
