Abstract

A demonstration is an essential process that ensures a successful transition from an innovative idea to a successful product. As an energy ecosystem, the energy internet (EI) is built on a wide variety of solutions that are designed and developed to achieve advanced connectivity, intelligent management and seamless integration of billions of smart devices, machines, and systems from multiple energy sectors. This chapter presents a brief overview of some demonstrations and pilot applications of EI-related solutions developed in Europe. The technology readiness levels (TRLs) of these solutions are between TRL 3 (experimental proof of concept) and TRL 9 (successful system operation). The main effect of these demonstrations and pilot applications is creating learning effects and showcasing opportunities for various stakeholders that are involved in developing and realizing EI solutions.
