Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to provide a critical overview of cost-effectiveness studies of antipsychotics in the treatment of psychotic disorders. Relevant studies were briefly reviewed and analyzed according to perspective, funding sources, outcomes, comparators, and time horizon. Differences in the costeffectiveness of older, first-generation antipsychotics and the newer secondgeneration drugs are still a matter of debate. Several methodological issues limit the generalization of cost-effectiveness studies across countries.
