Abstract

The treatment of major incisional hernias implies the cooperation of surgeons, anesthetists, and physiotherapists. Assessment of the terrain, especially respiratory function, intraabdominal insufflations, cutaneous preparation, and postoperative care are as important as the intervention itself. The use of a nonabsorbable prosthesis gives a nearly 90% success rate in massive incisional hernias.
