Abstract

Adverbial function is a unique secondary function in Arabic (bI) and Indonesian (bA). This function is optional function and flexible location on both of Indonesian and Arabic. This research, then, aims to (1) explain the formation of adverbial function on syntactical categoritazion and semantic role in Arabic (bI), (2) describe the formation of adverbial function on syntactical categoritazion and semantic role in Indonesian (bA), (3) describe the difference and equation consequence between Arabic"s and Indonesian"s adverbial function. To achieve those aims, this research employed syntactical and contrastive analysis. The result shows that adverbial function in bA and bI realize on difference form. On syntactical function, bA realizes it on al-maf"ūl muthlaq, al-maf"ūl li ajlihi (al-maf"ūl lahu), al-maf"ūl fih (dharf), al-maf"ūl ma"ah, chāl, tamyiz, istitsna", and jar majrūr function, but bI realizes it on adverbial function. On syntactical categorization, both of bA and bI realize it on nominal phrase and prepositional phrase. The differences, nominal categorization can takes adverbial function in bA, but bI take dependent clause and adverb as adverbial function. On semantic role, both of bA and bI realize it on manner, standard, locative, time, participant, instrumental, and characteristic role.the differences, ba takes assertive and specific roles, but bi takes benefactive, receptive, agentive, causative, basic, and stative roles as adverbial function.
