Breast augmentation is a common and popular procedure with a favorable safety profile. Infectious complications are the second most common complication, after bleeding complications, affecting breast augmentation patients. Infections occur at a rate of 0-4%, with the majority of infections occurring within the first 30 days of surgery (median time to infection 12 days). With breast augmentation being the most common aesthetic surgery performed worldwide, minimizing complications is of critical importance to the safety of our patients. This chapter focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of early and late infectious complications associated with aesthetic breast augmentation.
