Genetic Programming (GP) may be used to model complexdata but it must be tuned to get the best results. Thisprocess of tuning often gives insights into the dataitself. This is discussed using examples fromclassification problems in molecular biology and theresults and rules of thumb developed to tune the GPsystem are reviewed in light of current GP theory.
