Nurturing Empathy: An Oncologist Looks at Medicine and Himself

Abstract

Empathy in medicine matters. A doctor reflects on his experience as a patient and the need for clinicians to re-engage with patients empathically while giving the best care possible. In addition, we must begin teaching our students and trainees medical humanities as early as we can, because empathy can be nurtured.
