Abstract

The article presents the author's view on data recovery from overwritten areas of magnetic media. He explores his experience of encountering data loss and recovery effects of magnetic memory while working as a computer operator at Carnegie-Mellon University and as a systems administrator at the University of Southern California. He explores his efforts of tracking progress in digital forensics and recovery of data from disk drives.
