Abstract

This article intends to discuss the possibility of evaluating the internet-based virtual communities that are formed by the development of technology as a source of social capital. This study consists of three parts and analyzes the definitions of four concepts including social capital, the origins of the concept of community, modern society, and virtual communities should be considered as a source of social capital. Virtual communities are the transformation of traditional communities. Despite the fact that virtual communities are a concept that has been welcomed in the However, there are few studies to establish its connection with social capital. Thus, this study aims to have important contributions to the literature.
