Abstract

This paper deals with a proactive vertical handoff method to provide the QoS in the integration of WLAN and WiMAX networks. The handoff process is controlled by the vertical handoff management scheme. For every neighboring node in the destination network, the QoS metrics such as bandwidth and delay is measured. Based on the QoS metrics measured, the handoff process is initiated. This work is simulated in NS-2.34 network simulator. The simulation result shows a high performance increase in the increase in speed. This work also analyzed the performance of the integration of networks from WLAN–WiMAX and WiMAX–WLAN. From the analysis, the minimum delay is achieved in WLAN–WiMAX and high bandwidth in WiMAX–WLAN networks.
