Considering Ethics and Privacy Issues in Modern ICT-Tools

Abstract

This article presents ethics and privacy issues as they were used in the Ageing@Work project. It provides information on identified challenges and summarizes fundamental requirements to deal with ethical, privacy and other related issues. It shows how compliance with ethical and related requirements during and after an ICT-project may be considered. The contribution aims to help beneficiaries to comply with privacy policies and to decide if and for which actions may require external support. It is based on seven basic principles, which have to be considered in the ethical implementation and evaluation of research as well as in modern ICT-tools. This article shows, how these principles originally designed for clinical research may be adapted for ICT-tools, whenever data from individuals are collected and processed. The adaption means to meet the seven basic principles of the General Data Protection Regulation for personal data. Besides the adaption, some examples show how it may be applied in modern ICT-tools.
