Abstract

In 1970, Boutin introduced ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty (THA) [1]. The ceramic-on-ceramic articulation has the lowest wear rate among various articulations [2]. Ceramic particles induced less macrophage reaction and decreased cytokine secretion compared with particles of high-density polyethylene [3] and THA with use of the ceramic-on-ceramic articulation showed little periprosthetic osteolysis [1]
