Abstract

Blood marrow transplantation (BMT) is a widespread and validated procedure for the treatment of haematological diseases. Progresses in supportive care, the implementation of less toxic conditioning regimens and the biological and clinical advances made in the field of the graft-versus host disease (GVHD), the major complication of allogeneic stem cells transplantation, have led to an improved outcome of BMT in the past two decades (Gooley et al. N Engl J Med 363: 2091-101, 2010).
