Abstract

This article highlights the need for adequate conceptualization of gender violence in order to analyze what is behind the deaths of women by their male partners and often appear in the media. While we are in the so-called information society, which assumes a greater human development, the inertia of patriarchy has a strong resistance to it. The visibility of violence against women is an example of this, but in turn reflects only a specific side of the polyhedron which is gender violence, and the content must unravel. Against essentialist speeches we are located within the constructionist paradigm, to raising a criticism of the misleading equation made between gender violence and violence against women. For this has been redefined the structural categories of man and woman to expose the construct of sex / gender, and gender has been presented as a social relation of domination analyzing regardless of sex to break with one of the deeper resistance mechanisms of patriarchy, such as the duality two sexes / two genders..
