Abstract

Prostate cancer, due to its high prevalence and long-latency period, is an ideal candidate for prevention. Considerable efforts have been placed on prevention strategies utilizing 5-α(alpha)-reductase inhibitors (5-ARIs), statins, and metformin. In this chapter, we will review the rationale, mechanism of action, and key studies examining the role of these drugs in secondary prevention of prostate cancer among patients with low-risk prostate cancer undergoing active surveillance.
