LiN3 is prepd. by dissolving 1.30 g. of NaN3 and 1.41 g. of Li2SO4.H2O (10% excess) in 7 ml. of H2O. To this soln. is added 35 ml. of 96% EtOH. After 10 min. the mixt. is filtered. The ppt., which consists of Na and Li sulfates, is washed with EtOH. The filtrate and wash liquid are combined and evapd. to near dryness on a water bath. The final drying is at 80 Deg in an oven. The yield of LiN3 is 1.02-1.04 g. The product analyzed 99.5% pure LiN3. [on SciFinder (R)]
