Abstract

Early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy has allowed medical treatment of this condition with methotrexate. The criteria of methotrexate treatment include hemodynamic stability, ability to comply with follow-up, serum human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) < 5000 mIU/mL, and absence of fetal cardiac activity. In most women, one dose of intramuscular methotrexate (50 mg/m2 body surface) is effective. Patients can attempt to conceive after serum hCG is undetectable.
