We focus on the geostatistical characterization of the spatial distribution of soil particlesize curves (PSCs) within an alluvial aquifer. We consider as data object the entire PSC with a Compositional Data Analysis (CoDa) approach. Data are viewed as a point in the infinite-dimensional Hilbert space of functional compositions. The latter is endowed with the Aitchison geometry and enables us to derive a Functional Compositional Kriging (FCK) predictor. We demonstrate the methodology on a set of PSCs observed within an alluvial aquifer in the Neckar river valley in Germany.
