Abstract

Treatment of dentofacial deformities encompasses primarily orthodontic intervention in growing and adult subjects, to correct skeletal and dentoalveolar problems. Interdisciplinary management is required particularly when skeletal discrepancies between the jaws along with dentofacial irregularities are present in non-growing patients. Consequently, a combination of orthodontic and orthognathic surgery treatment is mandatory in many cases to restore normal function and enhance aesthetics. This chapter presents an overview of various orthodontic and orthognathic surgery treatment modalities and the different appliances used in the correction of dentofacial deformities.
