Abstract

In this paper we present an implicit algorithm for the implementation of the method of FPD(Fluid Particle Dynamics) for use in simulation of particle motions immersed in a viscous fluid. Compared with the original explicit algorithm, the implicit scheme presented in this paper allows a much larger time step. Applying our method to specific model flows, we demonstrated the effect of various parameters associated with FPD, such as the viscosity ratio and the interfacial width, on the stability as well as the accuracy of the numerical methods based on the simulation results. It was found that the method can be used for the case when the simplicity than the accuracy of the code is the most important priority for simulating the motion of single or multiple particles submerged in a viscous fluid.
