Abstract

A new species of frog, Alsodes hugoi, from the temperate Nothofagus forest of Central Chile, is described. Up to now, no sympatric occurrence of other congeneric species is known from the type locality. Karyotypically, this new species is included in the monticola group, whose species have 26 chromosomes.
