Abstract

This chapter sets the scene, starting with the context of a professional biographybiography, then the policy landscapepolicy landscapeand finally the context of initial teacher educationteacher education(ITE) in the lifelong learninglifelong learningsector. These three intertwining contexts build the foundations for the rest of the book, so that this chapter can be considered as an introductory `primer' that should help you to orientate and prepare for the level of understanding needed in future chapters.
