It is a common practice to install a simple oxygen monitor at the stack of a boiler. However, this measurement, though invaluable, often becomes a limited indication of the health of the combustion process. The simplest way to get additional input is to observe the quality of the smoke exiting the chimney. Any changes in its appearance indicates an alteration to the process conditions. This alternative way to ensure correct operation of the combustion process is presented in detail.
