Abstract

This chapter describes the great evolution foundations have undergone in France in the last decades. Then, it explains the main cases of foundations or similar entities now existing in France. The most important feature in this country is the total absence of regulation of foundations in the Civil Code, whereas foundations are governed by several laws, decrees and administrative regulations. Provisions about foundations are not clear and organic. Therefore, a reform of foundations’ rules is strongly needed. This chapter examines the aspects that a forthcoming law should consider.
