After a consideration of the meaning of plastic as compared with viscous flow, the author goes on to describe experiments made to determine the laws governing the former. The different types of viscous and plastic flow are discussed theoretically. In the case of mixtures, according to circumstances the viscosities of the components may be additive, the fluidities may be additive (a special case of this is the suspension of solid in a fluid), or slipping or seepage may take place to modify the character of the flow. The possible separation of the components of a mixture by means of flow is also considered.
