Abstract
Continued advances in pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) techniques have improved surgical outcomes for a wide variety of patients, including those with advanced uveitis. The role of PPV in selected cases of uveitis to obtain diagnostic specimens is well established and discussed in greater detail in Chap. 1.6.6. PPV also appears beneficial for the treatment of uveitis and/or its complications in select cases. The benefits of PPV for patients with acute-onset, postoperative endophthalmitis and vision of light perception were demonstrated by the Endophthalmitis Vitrectomy Study, which is discussed in more detail in Chap. 8.1. Here, we focus on the potential therapeutic benefits of PPV for patients with advanced noninfectious uveitis.
