Abstract

After years of separate use in biliopancreatic diseases, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) have now become two complementary techniques. The world of biliopancreatic endoscopists is therefore waiting for an instrument that combines the characteristics of both the procedures. The following chapter will describe the technical characteristics of the latest generation of instruments available, including the recent warning about infections caused by multidrug-resistant microorganisms (MDROs) in gastrointestinal endoscopy and the measures developed by the manufacturing companies to prevent the problem.
