Still Alice is a gripping film about early onset dementia and the gradual loss of autonomy and decision-making capacity. It is the ideal film for any neurology or gerontology unit because it confronts everyday issues in these fields. The film challenges conceptions of personhood, and when we determine that someone is non-autonomous, as there is no bright line in this portrayal—just as there is no bright line in many cases.
