Abstract

Traditional craft industries in Japan offer an opportunity to explore the dynamics of tradition and innovation. With an urgent imperative to change in order to ensure the continued existence of this cultural industry, this chapter offers a theoretical exploration and practical insights from firms based in Kyoto of whether innovation, internationalisation, and policy can coexist with defined concepts of heritage and tradition.
