Abstract

This chapter will review research aimed at identifying the various types of assistive technology (AT) available to students with disabilities, and the three most common forms of AT identified will be described in detail. Second, intervention research evaluating student outcomes following the provision of AT will be reviewed. Finally, reasons why AT may be difficult to obtain will be discussed, and recommendations for professionals charged with supporting the AT needs of postsecondary students will be offered. Ultimately, the aim of this chapter is to inform decisions concerning AT for postsecondary students and to elucidate directions for future research.
