Abstract

Microbial exploitation for the production of pectinase enzyme is highly attractive for applications in fruit, textile and paper industries and also in waste water treatment. Pectinases are a group of enzymes responsible for hydrolysis of pectin and breakdown of complex polysaccharides of plant tissues into simpler molecules with extra ordinary specificity, catalytic power and substrate specificity. The screening methodologies, characterization and optimization (physical, nutritional, and CAD) of microbial pectinase will be discussed.
