Abstract

In this paper, we propose a genetic algorithm(GA) based load balancing approach for a distributed system. Fisrt we develop two GA based algorithms to effectively reduce unnecessary request messages in sender-initiated approach and receiver-initiated approach respectively and then construct an adaptive algorithm for load balancing in a distributed system by combining the two GA based algorithms. The experiments show the proposed GA based adaptive algorithm performs efficiently in the variance of load of the distributed system. © Springer-Verlag 2004.
