Abstract

This poster presents the measurement of student engagement in a Facebook group for higher secondary school used as an educational scaffold. This mixed method research uses the student engagement instrument (SEI), adapted for the online environment. The inadequacies of social media analytics necessitated the use of the self-reported tool to measure student engagement in the Facebook group further triangulated by the focus group discussions. Thus, this study calls for comprehensive social media analytics that go beyond 'views', 'likes' and comments as a measure of engagement.
