Abstract

Introduction. The work assumes as an objective: to assess the learning strategies and motivation in the students of the Educational Sciences Faculty of the Eloy Alfaro Lay University of Manabí, establishing differences between those who study sports and non-sports careers. Methodology. The research constitutes a descriptive and correlational study. 566 subjects selected by incidental sampling participated. The MSLQ questionnaire was applied. The statistical evaluation was carried out with the SPSS 23 program, the arithmetic mean, standard deviation and mode, Fisher's asymmetry coefficient, the summative index of the answers to the questionnaire according to the dimensions, the micro variables and variables were determined; the Chi-square test was used for significant differences between responses of students from sports and non-sports careers, and the Spearman correlation coefficient for the associations between variables. Results. The mean value (x̄) of the motivation variable is 3.52±0.77, with a mode (Mo(X)) of 3. In the learning strategy variable, x̄ is 3.95±0.64 and the (Mo(X)) is 4, and there are no significant differences between races. The correlation between the variables studied is high. Discussion and Conclusions. Academic motivation is affected in all its components: those of value, those of expectation and the affective ones, the component with the lowest results is the evaluation of the task. In the Learning Strategies, the micro variables cognitive and metacognitive strategies and resource management strategies were taken into account, with the best results, both than motivation.
