Abstract

This study verified validity evidence for the Brazilian Portuguese adaptation of the Conflict Resolution Behavior Questionnaire - CRBQ. The sample was composed of 750 heterosexual couples, who lived in Rio Grande do Sul state in Brazil, and completed a questionnaire containing sociodemographic data, the CRBQ and the Golombok Rust Inventory of Marital State - GRIMS. Exploratory factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha reliability estimates and correlations between the two scales were conducted. Reliability estimates ranged from .68 to .79. The final version of CRBQ presented three dimensions, representing the strategies of conflict resolution: compromise, avoidance, and attack. The Brazilian version of the instrument was adequate for the assessment of conflict resolution strategies among couples. However, to improve the instrument, some item need further revision. A revised version of the CRBQ is presented, to be tested in future studies.
