Abstract

Many linguistic ambiguities are first resulting from the abusive use of the terms citizenship, secularism, human rights and democracy. Furthermore, the different political, religious and intellectual classes try to put these concepts in the Arabic and Islamic contexts in order to serve their own interests. This chapter also provides some terms that could go beyond the problematic use of the current concepts and terms, with a focus on the main objectives of citizenship: equality and equity for all in front of law.
