Abstract

The perception of the user context and its use as an aid for information access are one of the major areas of research that Mobile IR has made possible. This chapter tries to explain what context is and what being aware of it implies for Mobile IR. It also provides a set of examples of applications using context and some of its many components that a mobile device enables to capture, such as location, time, contextual aspects, and society.
