Abstract

Standard operating procedures (SOPs) are a vital component in any quality management system. Written instructions on standardized processes provide guidance to ensure that activities are conducted in a consistent way, thus leading to reliable product and service quality. SOPs should be prepared in full compliance with guidelines and regulations and must mirror current organizational practices. Many items must be considered in connection with SOPs and a particular format was used in this article to discuss a selection of those items. Compliance with SOPs will depend on the way employees are familiarized with the concept and contents of SOPs. Novel approaches are offered for SOP training, based on the selected items associated with SOPs, in order to 'infect' employees with the 'SOP virus'- a prerequisite for high-quality products and services.
