This chapter provides an overview of the process of policymaking and implementation and the role that educational sociology research plays in this process. It points out that policymaking has two phases namely policy development and policy implementation. This chapter claims that educational research has a significant effect on policy development yet is less influential in policy implementation. It describes the role of educational research in policy initiatives related to comprehensive school reform, standards-based reform, class size reduction, and classroom technology.
