Innovation is a topic that has received a lot of attention from academy in recent years, due intrinsically to the increase in the number of projects in the three sectors of the economy, forming part of the proposed agenda of Continents, Countries, Regions, States, Microregions, Immediate Geographic Regions, Municipalities and Brazilian Districts. This research aimed to analyze the innovation ecosystem of the state of Sergipe from the comparison of scientific literature and the results of empirical research. The qualitative work was configured as a case study, with non-probabilistic sampling, by quotas. As sources of evidence, semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, analysis of documents, registration in files and physical artifacts were used. For the theoretical basis, a systematic review of the concept, actors and cases of the innovation ecosystem was carried out based on the analysis of publications in the Web of Science database. As a research technique, content analysis was used with the aid of Nvivo 12 licensed software in the analysis of all investigated content. As final considerations, it is noted that there is no project by the public initiative aimed at the development of innovation in the state of Sergipe. Some actions by Caju Valley, SEBRAE, Movimento Inova Mais Sergipe, Fapitec-SE and SergipeTec move the innovation ecosystem, but it is observed that the state has an incipient structure in relation to its innovation ecosystem located basically in the cities of Aracaju and São Cristóvão, with no connection to the interior of the state.
