Unlike a single-layer based media, maintaining data integrity of a scalable media (SVC-encoded media) constructed as multiple layers is more difficult to achieve due to a retransformation property of the scalable media. Moreover, media redistribution among heterogeneous devices makes this issue more critical. To provide consistency in data management, we newly define an extended concept of data integrity as freshness in the standpoints of currency and reuse of data. In this paper we propose how to generate freshness information from the scalable media and describe a freshness-based persistent control of verifying currency and reusability for reliably coping with media retransformation and redistribution problems, respectively. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
