The preparation and catalytic properties of mixed Fe-Mo-W catalysts toward methanol oxidation are investigated. Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and chemical studies revealed the formation of two types of solid solutions with compositions Fe2(MoxW1-xO 4)3 and (MoxW1-x)O3. The solid solutions formed are characterized by high activity and selectivity upon methanol oxidation and are of interest in view of their practical application. Sodium-doped iron-molybdenum catalysts are also investigated and the NaFe(MoO4)2 formation was established. © 2010 IOP Publishing Ltd.
