Abstract

The current manuscript describes the advantages of ionic liquids and lipases (enzymes) association towards a clean biodiesel. Acidic and basic catalytic processes, as their technological drawbacks are discussed herein. The main interaction between such enzymes and ionic liquids are presented for a better understanding of the improvement on the catalytic activity of lipase enzymes when these biocatalysts are supported on an ionic media. Selected examples of recent scientific literature are described to show the promising and powerful combination towards a clean biodiesel synthesis.
