Abstract

Are human rights regarded as universal? Are human rights considered on the international level as of universal and binding nature? Are the same standards recognized all over the world or are there regional differences? These are the questions which Professor Marcelo Figueiredo, from Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, Brazil, answers in his Chapter on human rights in Latin America. He shows the development of the human rights, starting with an overview of Latin America´s perspective. The author carried out a substantial study on human rights in Brazil, their reception in the national legal order and application in the typical cases concerning this matter.
