Abstract

Abdominal wall hernias are common, with a prevalence of 1.7% for all ages and 4% for those aged over 45 years (Lancet 362:1561--1571, 2003). The definitive treatment of all hernias, regardless of their origin or type, is surgical repair (Dan. Med. Bull. 58:C4243, 2011).
