Flexible displays are an exciting development because of their physical and performance attributes and their capability to enable new products requiring displays with unique form factors that the current rigid glass substrate-based displays cannot support. Flexible displays can be very thin and lightweight, have unique form factors, and be highly rugged and not prone to breakage on impact unlike rigid and flat glass substrate-based displays. The flexible form factors such as having an arbitrary shape, ability to be curved, conformal, bendable, foldable, and rollable can enable a variety of new applications and products. In this chapter, we will discuss the various attributes of the flexible displays, their potential applications, and the display media appropriate for flexible displays.
