Abstract

Although the MAC protocol provides service differentiation, it does not guarantee that the QoS requirement of each service will be fully satisfied. We propose a soft QoS based call admission control scheme to support the QoS requirements of multimedia traffic in IEEE 802.11e WLANs. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, we developed the proposed algorithm in NS-2, and compared the proposed scheme with hard QoS scheme. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme outperforms hard QoS scheme in terms of throughput and the maximum number of accepted calls. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
