Abstract

The concept that celiac disease is permanent has been questioned not only by the observation of long periods of unexplained clinical remission after gluten reintroduction (3) but also by reports of cases which, after having had a clear histological relapse while on a gluten-containing diet, subsequently showed partial or total recovery of the histological lesion (4).
